The Style Playbook #2 – Let One Piece Lead
Less noise, more presence. Let one piece do the talking — the rest follows.
After starting last week with the foundation of fit, this edition is about control — not overthinking, not overstyling, just knowing where to place the spotlight.
September feels like a reset — lighter layers, sharper choices. When you let one element lead, the whole outfit feels lighter, more confident, and more intentional.
Here’s what I’ve prepared for you this week:
📚 The Style Playbook – Rule #02
One standout. Everything else neutral.🧵 Your Weekly Uniform
Sharp tailoring, timeless energy.🧩 Closet Upgrade
5 clean essentials with character.🎞 Timeless Inspiration Board
The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) — Pierce Brosnan, quiet luxury, crisp neutrals.🎯 Weekly Mission
Build a look around one bold piece — then strip it back.
Let’s get started.
1. 📚 The Style Playbook – Rule #02
One standout. Everything else neutral.
Style isn’t about doing too much.
It’s about knowing where to draw attention.
Every outfit needs balance — and this rule keeps things sharp:
→ Let one piece lead. Keep the rest quiet.
That standout can be:
A bold shirt
A pair of textured trousers
A vintage watch
Or even a simple bag with personality
Everything else: neutral, clean, supportive.
“Elegance is refusal.”
🧠 How to apply Rule 02:
Choose one piece that adds character — color, volume, shape or texture
Surround it with neutral tones: white, beige, navy, black, grey
Then ask: where does your eye go first?
If there’s clarity — the look works.
If there’s confusion — strip it back.
Here´s an example of it! ⬇️

2. 🧵 Your Weekly Uniform

Sharp tailoring, timeless energy.
This week’s look is all about effortless evening elegance — a clean suit, an open shirt, and accessories that add character without trying too hard. It’s the kind of outfit that moves easily between a dinner, an event, or a late-night drink.
[Fit Breakdown]
· Octobre Editions navy suit (relaxed cut, subtle pinstripe)
· Crisp white shirt, worn open for ease
· Cainte steel chronograph watch
· Minimal silver ring + bracelet
· Black leather belt
Why it works:
The suit does the talking — structured, sharp, but relaxed enough with the open shirt. The monochrome palette keeps everything grounded, while the accessories (watch, jewelry) bring a touch of personality. It’s refined without being stiff — a modern take on evening tailoring.

3. 🧩 Closet Upgrade
What I’m rotating this week — bold shirts, sharp watches, and subtle texture
This week’s picks reflect the balance I’m always aiming for: one piece that stands out, the rest that supports. A shirt with personality. Loafers that work day and night. And accessories that add depth without shouting.
Some of these I’ve worn for years (the loafers), others are new obsessions (the shopper bag or the shirt). All of them help simplify decision-making when getting dressed — clean pieces with character.
Here’s what’s in my current lineup:
1. EME Studios – Yisa Dada Shirt
Link →
It’s not your everyday striped shirt. The dropped shoulder, oversize cut, and tonal graphic give it a fresh feel without being loud. I wear it open over a white tank or buttoned up with relaxed trousers. It's that elevated casual that always works.
2. Cainte – Claude Chronograph
Link →
Sporty meets sleek. This watch brings contrast to minimalist outfits — especially the deep blue dial. I wear it when I want to add a sense of function to a clean fit. Good weight, great shape, and surprisingly versatile.
3. G.H. Bass – Larkin Tassel Loafers
Link →
Timeless, easy, and built to last. These loafers are my go-to when I need something polished but not stiff. The tassels give them charm, but the shape keeps them sharp. I wear them almost daily — timeless, polished, and surprisingly comfortable.
4. Uniqlo – Wide Pleated Pants
Link →
a lot of you asked my about my grey pants. An affordable staple that looks way more expensive than it is. The wide leg gives a bit of drama to the silhouette, while the pleats and length keep things grounded. It’s the kind of pant that upgrades even a simple tee. For me: simple tee, big pants — it’s an easy formula that always works.
5. Adolfo Domínguez – Leather & Suede Shopper Bag
Link →
Texture. Texture. Texture. This bag adds instant richness to any look — the leather/suede mix gives depth and softness. It’s spacious enough for everything I carry, and the neutral tone makes it easy to style. I’ve been reaching for it non-stop.
4. 🎞 Timeless Inspiration Board
Visual and cultural references that inspire how I dress.
This week I’ve been drawn to the idea of looking sharp without the effort showing — that perfect balance between clean and relaxed. And honestly, The Thomas Crown Affair nails it. Early September still feels warm, and what I want is soft tailoring, open shirts, and clothes that carry confidence without saying too much.
🎥 Film: The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)
It’s a remake, but it doesn’t feel like one. Pierce Brosnan plays a billionaire who steals art just because he’s bored. The plot is great, but the visuals are even better.
You’ve got cashmere by the sea, unstructured suits, perfect sunglasses, and a color palette that whispers, not shouts. It’s quiet, it’s polished, and somehow it all looks incredibly natural. That’s the kind of vibe I’m chasing lately—luxury that doesn’t need to explain itself.
👤 Style Mood: Pierce Brosnan
Even off-screen, Brosnan has that kind of style that feels steady. Nothing wild—just linen shirts, tailored trousers, maybe a blazer if the mood calls for it. He dresses like someone who knows himself.
And that’s what sticks with me: you don’t need a loud outfit if the fit, fabric and attitude are already doing the work.

🎶 This week’s soundtrack
Three tracks I’ve been playing on repeat this week. Different moods, same energy.
Something Stupid – Frank & Nancy Sinatra
Perfect for slow mornings or terrace dinners.Holy Grail – JAY-Z ft. Justin Timberlake
Gym banger.MalibU– Rusowsky
A track that feels like late-night confidence in the city.
5. 🎯 Weekly Mission – From Theory to Fit
A small action to apply what you’ve learned. Every week, one simple move to sharpen your style.
This week’s mission:
Build an outfit around one standout piece — and let everything else stay neutral.
That standout could be:
A patterned shirt
A colorful pair of sneakers
A textured bag
Or even a necklace, bracelet, watch or sunglasses
Then answer this:
Does your standout feel intentional — or forced?
Does your eye go straight to it — or does the outfit compete for attention?
Would you feel confident wearing this somewhere that matters?
📸 If you try this week’s mission, share your look in the private channel or tag me on Instagram (@nicobohigues). I’ll pick a few to review and give feedback.
Next Sunday, we’ll explore the rule that makes clean style feel timeless: learning to balance every part of your outfit.
Thanks for being here from the start.
See you next Sunday — same time, same place!
